A new creative platform named Lift has officially opened its doors in Riyadh’s JAX District. The 6,500 sq ft space joins a rapidly expanding network of galleries and cultural hubs in the area. Conceived as a fluid environment, it allows exhibition, production, and creative work to intersect. Founded by HH Princess Nouf bint Abdulaziz AlSaud and designed by Saudi-based quartz architects, the venue seeks to support the creative process from start to finish.
A Platform for Experimentation
The project draws inspiration from the industrial character of the JAX District. According to the founders, the architectural language is flexible and designed to support both public engagement and daily use. Lift positions itself as a dynamic platform for local artists, aiming to contribute to the evolving art scene in Saudi Arabia. The facility includes workshops, events, and shared creative spaces to support its mission.
HH Princess Nouf stated that the initial brief centered on creating a space that feels welcoming and intimate, but never intimidating. Originally founded in 2020, the organization has been reimagined in its new home. It serves as a platform for both local and international artists who blend disciplines.
“Lift came from a personal need to create a space that supports creatives beyond the final outcome, focusing on the process, experimentation and the journey behind the work,” she commented.

She added that the scene today feels bold and self-assured, with creatives shaping their own narratives rather than following expectations. For Riyadh’s creative community, the availability of a dedicated space for experimentation addresses a practical gap in the infrastructure.
By prioritizing the development phase of art over the immediate sale of finished works, the venue provides a safety net that encourages risk-taking. Such structural support could lead to more innovative work emerging from the region, as artists are given the freedom to explore ideas without the pressure of immediate commercial viability.
Designing for Collaboration
The architectural concept was led by Shahad Alsudais, the architect and founder of quartz architects. Her team responded to the industrial surroundings of the district while keeping Lift’s slogan, “a place to lift you up,” as a guiding principle. The group included Antonio Soreca and Lubna Tayeb. “Identity is shaped by movement and collaboration. We see it as a place where ideas are explored, shared and developed over time,” Alsudais explained.
The philosophy resulted in a fluid spatial layout intended to support interaction. The ground floor is designed as an open and active public area featuring workshop studios, a flexible gallery lounge, a merchandise concept shop, and a café.
It acts as a focal point in the otherwise neutral interior.

The area functions as a multi-purpose venue for brand launches, private events, and curated dinners. The layout is intended to be adaptable, allowing the space to shift between different modes of use throughout the day.
A sculptural chrome spiral staircase in a deep blue tone anchors the arrival area. Above the ground floor, the mezzanine level forms a more focused operational layer. The upper section contains offices, meeting rooms, and support spaces. The design ensures these zones are seamlessly connected to the public areas below, maintaining smooth circulation and efficient workflow.
Alsudais noted that the team wanted to keep the space very flexible. Adaptability translates Lift’s collaborative identity through multi-purpose areas. Together, these elements position the venue as both a cultural destination and a working creative platform. It reinforces its role as a catalyst within Riyadh’s growing arts and culture ecosystem.
The opening of Lift marks a new step in cultivating Saudi Arabia’s emerging creative ecosystem. The project is fully aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, contributing to a cultural scene that engages local and international audiences. HH Princess Nouf concluded that Lift aligns with the vision by supporting local talent. “I see Lift growing as a platform for meaningful creative expression, deepening collaborations, and becoming a quiet yet influential part of the real cultural environment,” she said.
